MEP Awards: Meet the sponsors

MEP Awards: Meet the sponsors What was your main motivation for signing up this year?

As a leading MEP operator in the region we are keen to be recognised by one of the most respected international MEP B2B titles in the world. Receiving the MEP contractor of the year 2016 award last year was a real accolade, and we like our employees to know that their work is being recognised.

We also like to take the opportunity to network with other key industry players, and catch up on the latest developments and best practices in our field. Having the best of the best in the MEP industry gathered together in one place is always a beneficial experience for all concerned.

What are you looking forward to the most at the awards this year?

Winning again? We’re looking forward to networking with our peers in other MEP companies and business partners. Despite being a multi-billion dollar industry, it is a small world in MEP, and many of the attendees have known each other well for many years.

We will also be one of the sponsors at this year’s awards. We think it is important to give back to this event and support our sector in raising its profile in a very tough market place. And I must add that last year’s evening of dinner and entertainment at the Westin Mina Seyahi was excellent, and I’m looking forward to seeing what’s in store for this year.

What have you been up to this year business wise?

So far a lot of tendering activity. 2016 was a very frustrating year; we tendered many projects that just stagnated and were never awarded and we hope 2017 will be different. There are some really exciting developments and projects on the market currently. We continue to be very selective working with our preferred clients and hope that many opportunities will be realised this year.

We also continue to challenge ourselves to do things better and smarter and ensure we are aligned in our approach with our strategic business plan. The highlight this year so far however, is securing the Museum of the Future project with BAM. It’s going to be an amazing building and facility.

How is the market shaping up? What market trends have you noticed this year?

A major market trend we are seeing now is the increasing prevalence of Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology being used on projects. As per government regulation, BIM is becoming mandatory on more and more projects in the UAE. Just last year, the UAE’s Quality and Conformity Commission set up a BIM steering group to investigate statewide adoption of BIM, so we’re only going to see this trend increase.

Our dedicated in-house BIM team and our introduction of BIM to site using Robotic Total Stations not only allows clients to conform to the new regulations, but also to create savings and improve efficiency through collaboration and technology.

In addition, as green-building requirements are becoming increasingly prevalent in government regulations, we are seeing a massive surge in demand for environmentally-friendly solutions for MEP projects. As a founding member of the Emirates Green Building Council and a leader in providing green building solutions, we are in a unique position to capitalise on this demand, which we have been able to meet by supplying the latest cutting-edge technology that provides savings in water and power consumption. As a business we are driven by our sustainability targets on an environmental, social and economic level.

What are the main opportunities and challenges in the market?

The main challenge facing us at the moment is the regional downturn, which means that the industry is becoming more and more competitive. As a result, we have had to be increasingly selective about the projects we tender for. However, we have been able to capitalise on our excellent reputation in the industry and our strong relationships with major contractors, as well as our vast portfolio of high-profile and top-quality completed projects.

In addition, a major challenge will be managing project financing and payment delays with regards to overly ambitious client budgets. As a result, we are looking for more opportunities to procure design and build projects, which enable us to lead the design-to-cost solutions for our clients, delivering a cost-effective service without compromising on quality and technical operability.
